Alexander Central won its seventh state title in school history on Saturday.

The Cougars (31-2) rallied with two runs in the seventh and dethroned North Davidson 3-2 at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh to win the Class 4A state championship. Christina Kinder, who had two doubles, scored the winning run in the seventh inning. The Black Knights (30-3) forced the decisive game by beating Holly Springs 4-0 Saturday morning, and by beating Cougars 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea Wilkinson, who had 15 strikeouts in Saturday's first game, was named the Most Valuable Player.  Wilkinson had 13 strikeouts in the win against North Davidson Friday night, and she had 18 strikeouts in the win against Holly Spriings in Friday's second game. The Cougars captured their first state championship since 2009.

HOLLY SPRINGS WINS CLASS 4A BASEBALL TITLE

Holly Springs won its first state championship Saturday afternoon by blasting T.C. Roberson 11-5 at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, NC.
The Golden Hawks (27-2), who swept the best of three series two games to none to win the Class 4A state championship, wiped a 1-0 deficit with a five-run explosion in the fourth inning. They followed that up with six more runs in the fifth to put the contest of our reach.
The Rams (25-7), looking for their first state title since 2002, grabbed an early 1-0 lead on a run-scoring double by Aaron Wright in the first inning. But the offense sputtered as the Rams left the bases loaded.
Holly Springs finally broke through in the fourth. A pair of two-run singles by Joey Roach and Justin Manning highlighted the five-run frame. Jesse Sykes had an RBI-double, Kyle Byrd and Mitch Hines each had run-scoring singles in the sixth as Holly Springs took a commanding 11-2 lead.
Carlos Rodon, who fired a two-hit shutout Friday night in game one of this best of three series, was 1-4 with an RBI Saturday afternoon. He was also named the series Most Valuable Player.   Byrd finished the day with three hits while Manning and Roach each had two. Manning drove in three runs.
Aaron Wright was 3-4, Corey Hargus and James Nevant each had two hits apiece for T.C. Roberson.
