Crawdads crush Shorebirds, 18-6 PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads scored a season-high 18 runs on a season-high 20 hits in the 18-6 victory against the Delmarva Shorebirds, before 5,987 fans at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Friday night.

Trailing, 5-2, through the first two innings, the Crawdads (29-25) came racing back with six runs in the third and fourth innings. Tomas Telis hit highlighted the comeback with a two-run double in the third. Josh Richmond drove him in with a run-scoring double that gave the Crawdads an 8-5 lead.
The Crawdads eventually broke the game open with a season-high seven runs in the top of the fifth.  With two on and no outs,  Teodoro Martinez brought in the first run with an RBI single. Jurickson Profar walked loading the bases setting the stage for Odubel Herrera, who belted a bases-clearing triple to right field.  Telis followed with an RBI single, his fifth RBI of the game, and Jhonny Gomez smacked a two-run double that gave Hickory a commanding 15-6 lead.
Martinez had an RBI triple and Profar had a run-scoring double in the sixth; and Profar closed out the scoring with an RBI single in the seventh, making it 18-6. Ben Henry (1-0), who took over in the fifth, threw four scoreless inningss and picked up his win of the year.
NOTES: The Crawdads wrap up their series against the Shorebirds in Delmarva on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The 'Dads will be back home to face the Lakewood BlueClaws on Sunday, June 5 at 5 p.m.  It will be Carnival Day at the ballpark, preceded by a Faith and Family Day service by Lower Creek Baptist Church from 3:30 - 4:15 p.m., open to all fans with a ticket to this game.
