Fan Fest to Include Corey Smith Concert PDF Print

For the first time, Appalachian State University’s annual football Fan Fest will include a concert, as country-music star Corey Smith will perform immediately following the traditional gridiron festivities on Saturday, August 20 at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Due to the post-scrimmage concert, the Fan Fest schedule will differ slightly from past years. The Kidd Brewer Stadium gates will open at 4 p.m. and Appalachian’s intrasquad scrimmage will kick off at 4:30 p.m. As always, the ASU Marching Band — North Carolina’s Band of Distinction — will perform its gameday hits while the Mountaineers hold their final full-team scrimmage prior to the Sept. 3 season-opener at Virginia Tech.
Immediately following the scrimmage, the traditional family-friendly Fan Fest activities will take place on the brand-new KBS turf. As always, Mountaineer players and coaches will sign autographs and take pictures with fans during this time. Players will also lead on-field football drills, ASU cheerleaders will paint “game faces” and inflatable rides will be available for young fans to enjoy.
At 8:30 p.m., Corey Smith will take the stage at The Rock. The crowds at Smith’s sold-out live performances frequently number in the thousands — quite a change from the times when he never dreamed of much beyond playing for a handful of his college buddies. But, thanks to  his astonishing gift for crafting addictively soulful songs and the high-energy reputation of his shows, Smith is one of modern country’s hottest young artists, a quintessentially indie performer with a dedicated following most Nashville-fueled hat racks would trade their flashy limos for.
Admission to the entire Fan Fest event, including the scrimmage, on-field activities and Corey Smith concert is FREE for Appalachian football season-ticket holders and ASU students. General admission tickets for non-season ticket holders cost just $10 and go on sale on Monday, July 11 at 9 a.m. Tickets can be purchased online at, by phone at (828) 262-2079 and in person at the ASU athletics ticket office, located in the Holmes Center. Tickets can be purchased online 24 hours a day while phone and in-person sales are available Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
