Power hangs on for 8-6 win PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads scored four times in the top of the ninth, but the West Virginia hung on for the 8-6 win, before 1,591 fans at Appalachian Power Park on Monday afternoon.

The Power (24-25) grabbed a 1-0 lead on a a sacrifice fly by Dan Grovatt in the first inning. But The Crawdads (27-23) tied things up on a solo home run by Tomas Telis, his sixth homer of the year, to lead-off the fourth.
A two-out, two-run single by Grovatt gave the Power a 3-1 lead in the ffifth.
The Power eventually broke the game open by scoring twice in the seventh and three more times in the eighth, making it 8-2. Rogelio Noris had the big blow during that outburst with a three-run homer in the eighth.
But the Crawdads put together a rally of their own. They scored four times in the ninth. Josh Richmond got things started with a walk; he took second on a defensive indifference call.  Andrew Clark singled putting runners at first and third with nobody out.
A sacrifice fly by Christian Villanueva scored Richmond, making it 8-3. Odubel Herrera singled putting two runners on for Alejandro Selen, who crushed a curveball over the left field wall for a three-run homer---his second home run in this series. 
But Trent Stevenson settled down and retired the next two batters to register his second save of the season.
NOTES: The Crawdads conclude their series against the Power in West Virginia on Tuesday at 11:05 a.m.  The 'Dads will be back home to face the Lakewood BlueClaws on Sunday, June 5 at 5 p.m.  It will be Carnival Day at the ballpark, preceded by a Faith and Family Day service by Lower Creek Baptist Church from 3:15 - 4 p.m., open to all fans with a ticket to this game.
