|Jackson Signs With Destroyers|

Former Appalachian State wide receiver/kick returner Dexter Jackson has signed with the Virginia Destroyers of the United Football League.Jackson, a second-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League in 2008, will be playing for former NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer.
Jackson, who made the cover of Sports Illustrated Magazine following the Mountaineers huge upset win against Michigan in 2007, was released by the Carolina Panthers last season.
Walter Payton Award winner Adrian Peterson of Georgia Southern (1999) was drafted by the Destoryers on May 2. The United Football League is a professional football league that began playing games in October of 2009. The league currently has five members going into the 2011 season (Hartford, Connecticut, Las Veges, NV, Omaha, Virginia and Sacramento), and four former NFL coaches are employed by the league.
Jerry Glanville, who led the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans) and the Atlanta Falcons, is the head coach of the Hartford Colonials; former New York Giants coach Jim Fassel is the head coach of the Las Vegas Locomotives, who have won the first two championships in league history (in 2009 and 2010); former Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings coach Dennis Green is the head man of the Sacramento Mountain Lions; and Schottenheimer is the head man in Virginia.
The UFL will play an eight or ten game schedule in 2011. Games begin in August and the regular season concludes in October. The UFL championship game will be played October 23 at a site to be determined.
