Appalachian State men's basketball coach Jason Capel has added a new assistant coach to his staff.

Kellen Sampson, the son of former Oklahoma and Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson (he's currently an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA), is now a member of the Mountaineers coaching staff. Sampson spent last season at Stephen F. Austin.
He joins a coaching staff that includes assistants Bobby Kummer and Justin Gainey. Sampson replaces former Associate Head Coach Rick Scruggs. Sampson's grandfather, John W. "Ned" Sampson was widely respected as a high school coach in Pembroke.
