'Dads, 'Hoppers Split Doubleheader PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads split their double-header with Greensboro Wednesday night at LP Frans Stadium. The Crawdads dropped the opener 3-2, but they bounced back to win the night cap, 5-0. Josh Richmond belted two home runs  in the second game, and Matt Thompson tossed  6 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the victory.

Greensboro wiped out a 2-1 deficit to win game one. A solo home run by Isaac Galloway in the third inning and an run-scoring single by Daniel Black in the fourth aided the comeback. Jordan Conley and Michael Brady, who picked up his third save, both dealt a scoreless inning in relief to close out the issue for the Grasshoppers.
The Crawdads responded with their second shutout of the season in game two.  Josh Richmond broke the scoreless tie with a solo home run in the second inning. Odubel Herrera followed with a triple and he eventually scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead. The 'Dads added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth.  Richmond reached on a fielder's choice, he advanced to second on a ground-ball out, and he scored on an RBI single by Jake Skole.
Richmond closed out the scoring with a two-run homer in the fifth.
Thompson earned his first win of the year by tossing 6 1/3 shutout innings. He struck out seven and scattered four hits.  Colby Killian came in with one out in the seventh and struck out the last two hitters to end the game.
NOTES: The Crawdads close the series against Greensboro with Thirsty Thursday, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, featuring $1 Can Beers and Pepsis.  There will also be a post-game concert by the Jacob Johnson Band.  First Pitch is 7 p.m., gates open at 6 p.m.
