The woes continue for San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner. The left-hander from South Caldwell High School suffered his sixth loss of the season Friday afternoon as the Cubs pounded the Giants 11-4 at Wrigley Field. That loss also snapped San Francisco's six-game winning streak.
But Bumgarner, who gave up three runs in the second inning, pitched well, despite the loss. He gave up two earned runs on five hits in six innings of work. He struck out six and walked two before he departed with his team trailing, 3-2. Bumgarner hasn't won a regular-seaon game since Sept. 30, 2010.
But the Cubs broke the game open against the Giants' bullpen. They scored five times in the seventh and three more times in the eighth. Winning pitcher Ryan Dempster went six innings and struck out 11 men, picking up his second win of the year. He also broke a personal six-game losing streak at Wrigley Field. Shortstop Darwin Barney was 3-5 with three RBI.
