The Savannah Sand Gnats topped the Hickory Crawdads, 6-1, before 1,780 fans at Historic Grayson Stadium in Savannah on Monday night.

The Sand Gnats (13-17) jumped in front with three runs in both the second and third innings, taking an early 6-0 lead.  The Sand Gnats took advantage of a combined seven walks in those two innings to pace the attack, capped by a two-run single in the third by Luis Nieves before Jorge Marban, who relieved Carlos Melo (L, 2-3), was able to work out of the inning.
Winning pitcher Gonzalez Germen kept the 'Dads (19-11) off the scoreboard for the majority of the game with seven scoreless innings.  Hickory finally got on the board in the top of the ninth.  Jake Skole walked to start the inning; he moved  to third on a single by Tomas Telis.  He scored on Andrew Clark's sacrifice fly. The Crawdads riding a three-game losing streak, take on the Sand Gnats in game two of that series Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
NOTES: Hickory will return home to start a seven-game homestand on Friday, May 13 against the Augusta GreenJackets at 7 p.m.  Don't miss a special appearance by Breakin' BBoy McCoy as he entertains fans of all ages during the game!
