Kostis Wraps Up Mat Season PDF Print

Former Watauga High wrestler Savva Kostis recently competed at the ASICS University & FILA Cadet Nationals in Akron, OH.

The championships were held at the University of Akron April 20. Kostis, a member of the Appalachian State wrestling team, goes 2-2 against the field. For the year, Kostis was 26-11 for the Moutaineers wrestling at 149 pounds.
He was 9-3 in duals, 2-1 in the Southern Conference. He had six pinfalls, five major decisions and one tech fall victory this season.
Kostis missed more than a month of the season with a stomach injury he suffered during the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro in late December.
Kostis was tied for second on the team with a career-high 21 wins to only six losses in 2010. He also had a team-best nine pinfalls.
At WHS, Kostis was named the Northwestern 4A Conference most outstanding wrestler his senior year. He was a two-time state runner-up, a three-time regional champion, and he produced a career record of 147-25. Kostis, who was the placekicker on WHS's Western Regional finals teams in 2006 and '07 also lettered in football, and track and field.
