Jack Childress will replace Watuaga County native Don Lucas as Coordinator of Football Officials in the Southern Conference.

Childress, who was a SoCon official for two years (1996 and 1997), has been a collegiate official for 18 years. Childress officiated two Rose Bowls, two Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Games, the Orange Bowl and Outback Bowl. He has spent the last 14 years officiating games in the ACC.
He also has 30 years of experience officiating high school football in both North and South Carolina, and he served as Director of the South Carolina Football Officials for eight seasons. He's a member of the ACC Football Officials Association's Board of Directors, and he was inducted into the South Carolina Football Officials Association Hall of Fame.
This past season Childress took over as Coordinator of Officials for the (Division II) South Atlantic Conference. He replaces Don Lucas, who is stepping down after 18 years on the job. Lucas will now concentrate his efforts as Coordinator of Officials in the Sun Belt Conference.
"Jack Childress brings a wealth of college football officiating experience to this position," commented Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino. "He has been among the best officials in the ACC for many years, is well-renowned for his communications and training skills, and understands what makes an effective coordinator. We're very fortunate to have him."
