Madison Bumgarner is still searching for his first win of the year, despite his best performance of the season.

The left-hander went six innings, gave up an earned run on five hits with a walk (which was intentional) and struck out seven. But the Giants wasted his effort as they dropped a 2-0 decision to the Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
The Giants made six hits and left eight men on base. They're 0-17 with men in scoring position in this series.
Bumgarner (0-4) remains winless on the season, but his numbers were impressive as he lowered his earned-run-average to 6.17 on the year. The only run Bumgarner gave up came in the second inning. Niel Walker led off the inning with an infield single, Steve Pearce doubled, and with runners at second and third and nobody out, Chris Snyder singled to center field, scoring Walker for a 1-0 lead.
In 23 1/3 innings of work this season, Bumgarner has given up 16 earned runs with 11 walks and 16 strike outs. The Giants wrap up their series in Pittsburgh Thursday afternoon.
