Public reaction has been swift and negative—the newest stretch of US 321—nearly finished south of Blowing Rock—had the speed limit lowered to 50 for passenger vehicles and 35 for trucks Friday. Calls and emails said that the DOT took the action due to some design flaws in the stretch that climbs over 200 feet from Nelson’s Chapel to Blackberry Road.  With the action taken late Friday, no comment was available from the DOT.
