Wilkes authorities have filed charges and arrested the man who shot his neighbor during a suspected break in and larceny Tuesday in Hays.  David Morlando, 43, of Crystal Lane in Hays is now charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, jailed in the Wilkes County Jail late Thursday afternoon under a $25,000 secured bond. The Wilkes Sheriff’s Office said Morlando was charged because the circumstances when he shot Christopher Lee Sheets, 28, also of Crystal Lane, didn’t fit the criteria for self-defense. Sheets is still hospitalized at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.  Morlando said he shot Sheets after seeing him exit one neighbor’s home, appearing to steal a riding mower, then come from a second neighbor’s home, walking directly toward Morlando.  Sheets was shot twice just before reaching Morlando’s property.
