Voters to Face Commissioners Over Tax Proposal PDF Print

This evening, Watauga Commissioners will find out just how their proposal for a quarter-cent sales tax is sitting with county taxpayers, as a public hearing on the matter is scheduled as part of their regular 5:30pm business session. Expecting a crowd, the meeting has been moved to courtroom #1 in the Watauga Courthouse to accommodate a larger gathering.  The public hearing is the third of three on the agenda, set to begin about a half-hour into their meeting.  Watauga voters turned down the same issue in August in what became a heated issue—an issue that contributed to three new republican commissioners winning in November.  Those three will face voters tonight on the issue, but voters will express the opinion that counts in May—less than nine months after turning the issue down.
