A North Wilkesboro man —a retired fireman— died early Tuesday from burns sustained in a fire at his home on Liberty Knoll Drive, off Liberty Grove Church Road, Monday afternoon. The Wilkes Journal-Patriot reports Robert Franklin Dancy, 72, died early Tuesday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Wilkes fire officials say first responders and firemen were called to the home at 5:42 p.m. Monday, and that Dancy’s clothes ignited from a burner on the electric stove.
No one else was at the home at the time of the fire. Dancy was found by a family member who had left the house briefly. He had sustained second and third degree burns over 75 percent of his body.
Firemen reported minor structural damage in the kitchen of the house and smoke damage in other areas.
