Want good economic news? Lowe’s Companies Inc. announced yesterday that it would add over 275 jobs in the contact center at its Customer Support Center in Wilkesboro by Sept. 1. The company announced a few weeks back that they were cutting a number of middle management positions, but adding direct service help in-store to help customers.  The new positions in Lowe’s Contact Center will interact directly with Lowe’s customers seeking information related to online purchases or requesting service for products such as appliances and outdoor power equipment. The center has grown from about 350 employees in January 2010 to over 700 people currently. The 275 jobs announced today will bring total contact center employment to over 975 by year’s end. The majority of employees working in the contact center will probably come from a 50 miles radius around Wilkesboro.
