Appalachian State University women’s basketball standout Sam Ramirez (Fayetteville, N.C./Southview) picked up her third conference honor of the season Tuesday afternoon, as the lone senior for the Apps was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week.

She was stellar in ASU’s three games over the past week and led the Black and Gold to a 2-1 record, averaging 20.0 points per game.

In the Apps’ win over the College of Charleston, the guard scored 17 points, including going 3-7 from behind the arc, while also recording five assists, four steals and three rebounds.  Her strong play help propel Appalachian to its 13th-straight home win, giving ASU the 15th longest home winning streak in NCAA Division I.

Her impressive play continued against Wofford as she posted perhaps one of her best all around games of the season thus far, pouring in a game-high 24 points, just two shy of her career best, swiping a career-high eight steals, while hauling in a season-best seven rebounds and recording four assists.

Ramirez capped off the week by pacing ASU on the scoring front once more, as she scored 19 points and tallied four assists in the Mountaineers’ tough eight-point loss to Georgia Southern Monday evening.

Ramirez now has 1,278 career points and has moved into eighth on Appalachian’s all-time scoring list. She has also led ASU in scoring in eight contests, while posting double-figures in 12, including scoring 20 plus points in seven games. She currently leads the SoCon in steals per game (2.8) and in assists-to-turnovers ratio (1.9), while she is also second in the conference in scoring with 17.7 points per game.

Not a stranger to conference honors, Ramirez was named conference player of the week for her performances at the Longwood Tournament back in November and was tabbed the November SoCon Women’s Basketball Player of the Month.

Looking to bounce back after a tough loss at Georgia Southern, Ramirez and the Apps continue with their challenging SoCon slate, as the squad hosts both Samford and Chattanooga this weekend. Samford heads to the High Country first, as the Mountaineers and Bulldogs are set to tip off at 7 p.m. from the Holmes Center, Friday, January 14.
