The Elon University Phoenix didn't take long finding a new head coach.

North Carolina State running backs coach Jason Swepson was named the new head coach of the Phoenix Sunday, replacing Pete Lembo, who left in December to take the vacant head coaching job  at Ball State. Swepson has no previous head coaching experience, but he spent 11 years as a running backs coach for Tom O'Brien at State and Boston College. He began his coadhing career with O'Brien in 1999. He was officially introduced as the school’s 20th football coach during a news conference Monday at Elon's Alumni Gym.
Swepson, who has been coaching for 19 years, was also an assistant coach with Rhode Island, Boston University, Holy Cross and Northeastern from 1993-98. In 1996, he served as the offensive coordinator at Holy Cross.
Swepson worked NFL internships with the Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins from 1998-2000. As a college player, he lettered as a running back and a wide receiver at Boston College from 1988-92.
The Phoenix was 6-5 this season and didn't qualify for the Division I Football Championship Series Playoffs.
