Gilliam remains perfect PDF Print

Watauga High wrestler Jacob Gilliam is off to an impressive start.

Gilliam, who was also a Northwestern 3A/4A Conferrence selection in football, has taken his talents to the wrestling arena. Gilliam is currently 9-0 and he has two tournament championships under his belt. He has won six of his matches by pinfall this season.

 He won the Old Appalachian Invitational on November 24, and he backed that up by winning the title at 160 pounds at the Falcon Frenzy at West Henderson High School this past weekend. Gilliam was 4-0 and he sealed up the title with a pinfall in the finals.

Other place finishers for WHS were: Gus Coffey, who finished third at 103 pounds, Demetre Kostis (5th at 125), and  Ethan Henson (6th at 130).  The jay-vees had four place finishers-- Tate Abernathy and Cody Miller both registered second-place finishes; Will Critcher and Matt Danner both finished third.

The WHS wrestling team travels to Avery Tuesday night,. weather permitting.
