Commissioners To Urge DOT To Move Ahead On 421 Widening PDF Print

In other actions, the Watauga County Commissioners will send a resolution to the Dept. of Transportation to urge that they move up their schedule for widening Highway 421 between Highways 194 and 321.

The DOT’s current plan calls for a 2010 start date. The Commissioners hope the DOT will accelerate that schedule so that at least the Newmarket leg of the project will be done when the new High School opens. That section of the project will provide key access to the new school. The Commissioners will also urge other interested parties, such as the School Board, ASU, and the Boone Chamber to submit requests in writing before the DOT’s comment period ends April 13th. Commission Chair Jim Deal urged all who would like to see traffic ease along 421/King street to write the DOT.
