Restraurant Renovations go Awry, Fire Totals "Rascals" PDF Print

Fire early Saturday morning totaled the former Rascal’s Restaurant in Beech Mountain near the entrance to the ski mountain. Watauga Fire Marshal Paul Buchanan said that the building was being renovated into a sports bar, and a spark from a cutting torch, being used to take out a barbecue cooker, apparently set fire within the wall sometime late Friday, and the fire call came in sometime around 1 or 1:30 Saturday morning.  Buchanan said that the blaze destroyed about half of the structure, and what was left would have to be taken down due to smoke, heat, and water damage—the structure a total loss.  Beech Mountain, Fall Creek, Banner Elk and Newland Fire Departments responded to the scene
