Brittany Bolick, a stellar athlete during her playing days at Watauga High, has been named the new women's soccer coach of the Pioneers. Bolick, a two-sport star (she played basketball for Todd Dixon and soccer for the legendary Doug Kidd), replaces Uwe Erhlech, who resigned last spring. Bolick played at the varsity level for four years. She was an all-conference selection three times. She was Player of the Year in the old Northwestern 4A Conference, as well as an all-region and all-state selection her senior year.
She went on to play soccer at Charleston Southern University, a Division I school in the Big South Conference. She was named the team's Most Valuable Player, she was an All-Big South selection during her junior and senior years, and she was team captain for three seasons.
She also tied the Charleston Southern school record for most games played and started.
"I am passionate about this game, and my goal is to make this program one of the best in the state," Bolick said. "I feel very honored and excited about this opportunity to work in this soccer program that had such an influence on me both as a player and as a person."
Soccer practice begins in February. The WHS women's soccer team was 10-8-1 last season.  The Pioneers lost to Mooresville in the opening rouind of the Class 4A state playoffs on penalty kicks.
