|WHS volleyball earns split at Newton-Conover|

The Watauga High volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Newton-Conover tri-match on Saturday afternoon.
WHS (13-2) defeated Statesville in a three-game sweep (25-21, 25-16, 25-8) before losing a five-set match (25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 14-16) to the host school, Newton-Conover. Bailey Hagaman turned in a huge afternoon from her setter position.
The senior had 83 assists on the day, including 53 in the Newton-Conover match. She came within three assists of tying her career high and school record effort of 56 assists, which she set last season. Brooke Rhodes led the front-line attack with 17 kills and 24 blocks in the two matches combined. Hannah Stewart had 23 kills and six digs on the day, and Skylar Hicks had 29 digs, 20 of which came in the Newton-Conover match.
Channing Hagaman had 21 kills against Newton-Conover and Anna Church had 18 digs against the Red Devils. Colby Combs had nine kills in the Statesville match.
WHS (3-0 in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) returns home to play Alexander Central in a conference match Tuesday night. The Pioneers play Hickory on Thursday.
