WHS Volleyball sweeps tri-match PDF Print

The Watauga High volleyball team continued its early-season domination on Saturday.

The Pioneers (10-1) knocked off Starmount and East Burke in a tri-match at Lentz-Eggers Gym. WHS defeated Starmount in four games: 25-12, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-18. WHS knocked off East Burke in a three-game sweep: 25-22, 25-11, 25-13.
Bailey Hagaman led the way with 70 assists. She had 41 in the win against Starmount; she had 29 in the East Burke match. Channing Hagaman and Hannah Stewart each had 20 kills; Colby Combs had 16. Brooke Rhoades had 12 kills on the day.
"What I really like most about this team is that we have everyone making a contribution," said WHS coach Kris Hagaman. "It's not just one person getting involved, but a lot of people making things happen on the floor. In turn, that creates a lot of problems for the defense."
Caroline Yates had eight digs and seven service aces; Skylar Hicks had 19 digs, 12 of those in the East Burke match. The Pioneers (1-0 in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) host Hibriten Tuesday night.
NOTES: The Pioneers are ranked fifth in the state in kills and hitting by MaxPreps.com.....They are second in the state in service aces and assists....Bailey Hagaman is ranked third in the state by MaxPreps.com in assists, and 16th nationally.....Hannah Stewart is sixth in the state in kills.
