More Paving Scams Reported PDF Print

The stories of paving scams continue to come it, an email from yesterday telling an all-too-familiar story with the twist of two victims at once.  The woman wrote,
“My elderly next door neighbor was taken for a large sum of money which involved me because she gave him the OK to pave my driveway as well.  She had to pay with cashier's checks (big red flag).  “We have been told that the asphalt will probably crumble with the first freeze since there was no heat applied to it.  It has already shown signs of crumbling and it has only been down several weeks.   Of course this means we will probably have to go to the expense of having it repaired in the future.  The real kicker is that we already had an asphalt drive that didn't even need repair.”
I encouraged the woman to report the incident to the NC Attorney General’s office, which already has open complaints filed against one area firm, according to Noelle Talley "We would certainly encourage any consumers who've had dealings with this company that weren't to their satisfaction to please file complaints with our Consumer Protection division...In other cases that we've brought against problem pavers we've been able to go to court using consumer's complaints and actually get refunds for people in certain situations."
The address to file complaints on-line is or call toll-free1-877-5-NOSCAM for the written form to be mailed.  I would still like to hear your stories about dealing with potential scams of all sorts.  Email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or call 828-414-1027.  You can help me keep the information flowing about scams and the heat on these firms.
