Two bills that would ‘box in’ Boone development for the future are now lodged in the same house committee in the North Carolina Legislature, and there’s no indication that they will emerge in time for action in the short session of the Legislature. Both houses convene at 10 this morning,
but neither list bills for action on their agenda. The Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House committee, where both bills are waiting action, will meet Monday at 10:30, a day of work beyond what Legislative leaders had hoped for adjournment. Most of the waiting is for Governor Bev Perdue to sign or reject the state budget, which would then require more legislative action. The Governor has been highly critical of the budget for its treatment of school and teachers, who would get their first raise in several years—less than 2%. |
