East King Street Update: Lane Closures Possible PDF Print

As crews continue their work to widen East King Street, lane closures are a possibility this week.

According to Frank Gioscio, the resident engineer with the NC DOT construction office, flagmen may be placed the highway near the Highway 194 intersection.  Lane closures may be needed to install new water and sewer lines.

Gioscio said lane closures are also possible in front of the Country Inn & Suites and the Best Western Blue Ridge Plaza.  He explained there are multiple retaining walls by the highway that must come down.  Crews will bring out concrete barriers and temporarily close a lane of traffic so they can dig under the walls to remove them.

With the possibility of rain in the forecast this week, Gioscio said Mother Nature might prevent crews from moving forward with these stages of the project.
