pdr_2208.jpgThe high bid at this evening’s auction of the historic Green Park Inn was $750,000, which is a much lower price tag than most residents and real estate officials expected.

 

Mark Rogers of Rogers Realty and Auction Company opened the auction at $5 million, but after no one made a bid for quite some time, he accepted an opening bid of $500,000.

 

After a few more minutes, the bid was hiked up to $600,000, then $700,000, until finally reaching the high bid of $750,000.

 

Immediately following the auction’s closing, the top bidder and the owner of the Green Park Inn went to a separate room to negotiate.  Rogers told High Country Radio that the auction was restricted, so the owner would not have to accept the top bid.  He explained it may be tomorrow or even later in the week before the realty company would know if the transaction had been accepted.

 

While only eight bidders registered for their chance to purchase the inn, around 80 spectators were on hand to see who would be the new owner of the landmark.
