With rising unemployment rates across the state, several area agencies are working to help put residents back to work.
Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina is working with Future Truckers of America and Wilkes Community College to offer a professional truck drivers training school in Wilkesboro.
According to Jaymie Eichorn, of Goodwill Industries, the four-week training program will begin on July 20. Eichorn explained that classes will be held at Goodwill’s Career Connections Center in Wilkesboro and the driver training will be held at Wilkes Community College.
Eichorn said graduates of the program will receive job placement assistance and could earn up to $40,000 in their first year of employment.
