A Lansing man has died from injuries sustained in an accident from late Tuesday morning on N.C. 163 near the Dr. Pepper plant in West Jefferson. 89-year old Wayne Finley was pronounced dead at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after being airlifted from Ashe Medical Center, according to State Trooper Jason Brown. Brown indicated that some medical condition may have led to the crash as Finley’s black Honda Accord struck a semi-trailer truck turning out of the plant on to the highway. Brown said there no skid marks approaching the crash site raising the possibility of a health issue leading to the crash. Brown said the car was heading west on N.C. 163 while the truck was turning on to the road when the collision happened. Finley was briefly pinned in the vehicle until EMS personnel and rescue personnel freed him, rushing him to Ashe Memorial before being airlifted to the Winston-Salem hospital.
