A shockwave rattled the High Country just before 4 Sunday afternoon, prompting calls about explosions or other anomalies.  The quake was centered 3 kilometers NW of Blowing Rock, hitting at exactly 3:50:40, according to the USGS reporting center.  Patrons in Blowing Rock Park reported the shockwave, and a Blowing Rock officer reported the police station shook so hard that he thought something had hit the building.  Then reports came in from Boone, Valle Crucis, Seven Devils and other areas in Avery and Watauga.  The USGS report showed the quake to as a 2.6 on the Richter Scale, but no damages were reported.
