Ashe Sheriff's Office Captain Carolyn Gentry reports that she was called to Ashe Memorial Hospital to investigate an alleged rape of an 11 year old child. Her investigation revealed that the child had met John Tyler Harms at the skating rink in West Jefferson. Subsequent to that meeting, Harms befriended the child during meetings at the skating rink over the last month or so. On the night of April 30, Harms came to the residence while the mother of the child was working. Upon the return of the mother, the child was taken to the emergency room. Sgt. Danny Dillard and Josh Hopkins assisted in the arrest of Harms, 20, the Warrensville area man charged with Rape of a Child, 1st Degree Sex Offense, and Disseminating Obscenity to a Minor under the age of 13. John Tyler Harms is currently in jail under a $250,000 bond.
