The woman critically injured in a crash with a Boone snowplow died Thursday at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Reinald Gomez, 57, was struck by the scraper blade of the truck driven by 51-year-old Robert Rominger of Zionville, after it lost brakes working to clear snow off of University Hall, careening out into Blowing Rock road where it struck the SUV of Liliana Arias of Boone.  The State Highway Patrol and the Motor Carrier Division investigated the Monday night crash, Trooper Searcy said that the truck after it lost brakes coming down the steep hill at University Hall and slammed into the Mercury Mountaineer.  Blowing Rock Road was closed for the rest of the evening for the investigation and cleanup of the scene. Trooper Searcy said the Town of Boone truck appears to have had some failure in at least one brake, and the state patrol motor carrier division found several other issues, but the investigation was still underway late last week.
