The public opened their hearts—and wallets—for the family of the Watauga deputy killed last month in a shooting in Deep Gap. In the silent auction from Wednesday, put on by Chetola Resort, the Boone and Blowing Rock Chambers of Commerce,
some $22,000 was raised for the family of William Mast Jr., with more ‘trickling in,’ according to organizers. Businesses around the High Country contributed certificates, goods, services, and a steady stream of visitors stopped by the Blowing Rock Fire Department Wednesday, placing bids. William’s widow, Paige, and their son, expected to be born this month, will benefit from the fund-raising as the community looks for ways to help. |
