Wide receiver David Gettis was placed on the Panthers' active/physically unable to perform list to open training camp as he continues to recover from the torn left ACL he suffered in camp last year, The Sports Xchange has

confirmed. Carolina is hoping Gettis can compete for the starting job opposite Steve Smith, but acquired Louis Murphy from Oakland on Monday for more depth. Brandon LaFell is expected to open camp atop the depth chart after the Panthers chose not to bring back Legedu Naanee.
Gettis was a sixth-round pick out of Baylor, and the Panthers are still counting on having his deep speed in the lineup this season. He caught 37 passes for 508 yards and three touchdowns in 2010.
