Mrs. Helen Stanford Seldomridge, “Granny”, age 85, formerly of Zionville, NC, died peacefully, Wednesday August 6, 2014, at the Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir, NC.

Helen was born December 17, 1928 in Chicago, IL to the late James M. and Marguerite Helen Stanford, an only child.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed the outdoors, growing flowers, watching birds and most of all being with her family and friends.

Helen was a member of Western Watauga County Senior Center located in the Cove Creek Community in Sugar Grove. There she had many, many friends and participated in fun activities in an environment which encouraged independence in older adults. She also enjoyed working on her crossword puzzles and playing Spider Solitaire.

Helen had a special love of Butterflies. Her family and friends will never again see a butterfly without thinking of her.

Helen is survived by six sons: Richard Seldomridge, wife Sheron of Winder, GA; James Seldomridge, wife Mary of Sparrows Pt., MD; Robert Seldomridge, wife Isabel West Jefferson, NC; Scott Seldomridge of Deep Gap, NC; David Seldomridge of Vero Beach, FL; John Seldomridge, wife Tanya of Boone, NC; thirteen grandchildren: Clinton Seldomridge of Davie, FL; Jennifer Mercurio of Winder, GA; Amy Boyer, husband Anthony of Ellijay, GA; Jessica Fenfert, husband Dennis of Columbia, MD; James Seldomridge of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Justin Seldomridge of Troutman, NC; Michael Seldomridge of Deep Gap, NC; Christina Seldomridge of Wilmington, NC; Stephanie Fischer of California; Christopher Seldomridge of Henderson, NV; Elizabeth Seldomridge of Wilmington, NC; Megan Skubal, Fiancé Rich Carlson of Washington, DC; Jeff Seldomridge, wife Jessica of Boone, NC; and five great-grandchildren: Connor, Caleb and Cruz Mercurio of Winder, GA; Madelyn Boyer of Ellijay, GA and Leah Fenfert of Columbia, MD.

Helen is also survived by her closest friend Laura O’Bryan and her husband Donald, their four children Daniel, wife Miranda; Christopher, Joshua and Kevin and their three grandchildren: Andrea, Daylen and David.

In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Richard and their adopted son James Gregory.

A memorial service for Helen Stanford Seldomridge will be conducted Friday morning, September 5, 2014, at 10:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel; Officiating will be Rev. Doug Cheshier. A reception will follow at 12:00 noon at the Western Watauga Community Center located at 1081 Old US Highway 421, Sugar Grove, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, North Carolina, 28645.
