George Holeman Greer, age 82, of Valle Crucis died peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2014 at his home.
George was born on February 10, 1932, in Owensboro, KY to the late William Hershey Greer and Sara Temple Holeman. After graduating from Washington & Lee University, George and his wife Ann settled in Owensboro, Ky. In addition to being a loving husband and father, George was the owner of W.H. Greer Supply Company in Owensboro, KY as well as being active in local and state politics.
After retiring, George and Ann settled in Valle Crucis and began attending Holy Cross Episcopal Church where he served on the Hunger Coalition Board, Vestry, Finance Committee, and volunteered at the Valle Crucis Fair for the past several years.
George loved boating, gardening, and watching the deer and turkeys outside his back door windows. Many loved him and his passing will leave a great void in their lives.
Surviving are his children, Robin Greer Moorman of Owensboro, KY, Ann Greer Bahme and her husband Bob, of Houston, TX, The Rev. George H. Greer, Jr. and his wife, Claire of Rocky Mount, NC, and William Hadaway Greer and his wife, Carol of Bowling Green, KY. Grandchildren include Jennifer Moorman, Greer Moorman and his wife, Whitney, Kelly Moorman, Anna Bahme, Sarah Greer, Andrew Greer and his wife, Tara, Tucker Greer, John Greer, and Ginna Greer; Great-grandchildren include Summer Bowlds, Taylor Bowlds, Alex Bowlds,, Cash Moorman, Sadie Ann Moorman; nieces Anne Majak, Susan Firestone, Mary Greer, Sara Dent, Margaret Carr and Lucy Greer, and Alan Lancaster. He is also survived by his brother, William H. Greer, Jr., and his wife, Margaret Weyerhauser Greer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Hershey Greer and Sara Temple Greer, and his beloved wife, Ann.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00AM EDT, on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Valle Crucis, officiated by the Rev. Allan McCaslin. Remains to be interred at Holy Cross Episcopal Church Columbarium.
