Joy Marie Cook, age 29, of Durham, a native and former resident of Elk Park, won her battle against Cystic Fibrosis and went on to her heavenly home, Sunday, May 18, 2014.
Joy was born December 4, 1984 in Avery County, the daughter of Keith and Judy Cook. She was a research assistant of Bio-Statistics at the University of North Carolina and attended Heaton Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, Joy is survived by one brother, D.J. Cook and wife Angela of Creedmore, North Carolina; her paternal grandmother, Jean Cook of Elk Park, and her maternal grandparents, Dwain and Alverta Forbes of Bellville, Ohio. She is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Dennis Cook.
Funeral services for Joy Marie Cook will be conducted Thursday evening, May 22, 2014, at 7:00 o'clock, at Heaton Christian Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 4:00 until 7:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Brent Nidifer and Jamie Shell. Graveside services and burial will be conducted Friday morning, at 10:30 AM, at Crossnore First Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, from 4:00 until 7:00 o'clock, at the church, prior to the service.
