Ethel Enna Nichols Clawson, age 101, of Deep Gap, passed away Wednesday evening, April 2, 2014, at Watauga Medical Center after suffering a severe heart attack.

Mrs. Clawson was born December 16, 1912 in Wilkes County, a daughter of the late Arthur and Mattie Hamby Nichols. Her family soon moved to the Deep Gap Community and she was a life long resident. She attended Appalachian High School and was an active member of Laurel Springs Baptist Church.

Mrs. Clawson is survived by two sons, Gerald R. Clawson and wife Lynne of Greensboro, and David L. Clawson of Linville. She was also blessed with four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard Worth Clawson; three brothers, Challie Nichols, Monroe Nichols, and Arthur Frank Nichols, five sisters, Viola Greer, Hattie Belcher, Florence Day, Emma Moretz, and Minnie Wellborn.

Funeral services for Ethel Enna Nichols Clawson will be conducted Monday morning, April 7, 2014, at 10:00 o'clock, at Laurel Springs Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 9:00 until 10:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Pastor Brent Bolick and Pastor Tim Lynch. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Laurel Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 7504 US Highway 421 South, Deep Gap, North Carolina, 28618.
