Shirley Story Chandler, age 66, of Westbrook Street N.W., Lenoir, passed away Monday evening, February 17, 2014, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Shirley was born August 27, 1947 in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Olin and Faye Rector Story. She was a retired assistant director of the City of Morganton Municipal Auditorium.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Melvin W. Chandler of the home; one brother, Gene Story and wife Jeanne of Hendersonville; one sister, Judy Phillips of Lenoir; one nephew, Robert W. Phillips, III of Lenoir, and one niece, Sherry Gorman and husband Todd of Hickory.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-niece, Lexus Phillips.
Funeral services for Shirley Story Chandler will be conducted Friday afternoon, February 21, 2014, at 2:00 o'clock, at Laurel Fork Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock. Burial will follow in Laurel Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock, at Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir. The family will also receive friends Friday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock, at Laurel Fork Baptist Church, prior to the service.
