Mr. J.D. Phillips, age 103, of Boone, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation in Boone.

Mr. Phillips was born February 20, 1910 in Ashe County, a son of the late Benjamin Harrison Phillps and Julia Woodruff Phillips. He was a retired owner and builder of apartment rentals. Mr. Phillips was of the Baptist Faith and Mason and Shriner.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Brona Elledge Phillips of the home; three daughters, Mary P. Moretz of Boone, J. Ann Mikeal of Aurora, Colorado, and June P. South and husband Frank of Boone. He is also survived by six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, two nieces, and one nephew.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Phillips, and two sons-in-law, Max Mikeal and Cecil Moretz.

Funeral services for J.D. Phillips will be conducted Saturday afternoon, January 4, 2014, at 2:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 12:30 until 1:45 PM. Officiating will be Reverend Dr. Larry Young and Reverend Gary Watson. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, from 12:30 until 1:45 PM, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 950 W Faris Road, Greenville, South Carolina, 29605.
