Michael Bruce Austin, age 53, of Conley Cheek Road, Fleetwood, passed away Tuesday evening, July 23, 2013, at his home.


Michael was born December 8, 1959 in Caldwell County, the son of Virginia Austin-Ferguson and the late William "Bill" Austin. He was a self-employed general contractor and attended Calvary United Methodist Church. Mike was known and admired most for his meticulous personality, love for people, loyalty to his customers, and his passion for his family and business.


Michael is survived by his wife, Charlene Church Austin of the home; one son, Tim "T.J." Austin and wife, Kylie of Spruce Pine; two daughters, Heather Austin Fields, and husband, Michael of Elk Park, and Sarah Austin of Newland; three granddaughters, Taylor Bennett, Emma Austin, and Tori Austin, all of Spruce Pine; three grandsons, Jonathon Austin of Spruce Pine, William Fields, and Mitchell Fields, both of Elk Park; his mother, Virginia Austin-Ferguson and husband, Harold of Sugar Grove; one brother, Doug Austin and wife, Lynne of Sugar Grove; his father and mother-in-law, Pete and Betty Avery of Jefferson; his sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Eric Wilson of Boone, and four nephews, Brandon Austin and wife Charity of Sugar Grove, Edward Austin, Chase Dillard, and Corbin Dillard, all of Boone.


In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Don Austin.


Funeral services for Michael Bruce Austin will be conducted Saturday afternoon, July 27, 2013, at 4:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 3:00 until 4:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Reverend Brian Cornell. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson.


The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.
