The Watauga County Board Of Commissioners will hold a public hearing Tuesday at 5:30 to hear comments on proposed amendments to an ordinance to regulate loud disturbing noise and activities. 

In April of this year, the American Indoor Football League announced plans to bring an expansion franchise to Boone. The High Country Grizzlies to begin play in the spring of 2017.

The North Carolina state prison system is ending the use of solitary confinement for its youngest inmates and introducing a new youthful offender program to focus on the needs of young people serving sentences in the adult prison system.

The Watauga Democrat has reported that the Appalachian State University Board of Trustees held a special meeting Saturday, June 11, but did not provide notice of the meeting to the media as is required by state law.

On June 13, 2016, Allan Lee Coffey, age 32, plead guilty to four counts of felony breaking or entering, four counts of larceny after breaking or entering, and one count of possession of methamphetamine.  He also admitted his status as an habitual felon.  

The Watauga County Board of Education has extended Superintendent Dr. Scott Elliott's employment contract.
