Jury leaned towards Not Guilty PDF Print

The murder trial of Sawmills dairy farmer Jerry Anderson ended Friday in a mistrial- and that may have been good news for prosecutors.

Jurors interviewed after the 12-person panel was excused Friday said a majority leaned toward “not guilty” by an 11-1 margin. While charges against Anderson are still pending, he could be released if his $150,000 secured bond is posted. While the District Attorney’s office had no comment for the press on Friday, they will be making a decision on whether or not to retry the case after meeting with Caldwell County sheriff’s officials. A mistrial makes it as though the case never went to trial.

Jurors had problems with the amount of direct evidence presented, the alleged timeline and the investigation itself, among other things.

What happens next is up to District Attorney Jay Gaither and any future discoveries.
