Wizards and muggles alike flocked Regal Cinemas in Boone last night for the premiere of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.Patrons without pre-purchased tickets were out of luck. Even those with tickets faced a line out the door.
What was the appeal? According to Shalamar Blevins, it’s the fantasy element.
She said it's the fascination with J.K. Rowling's fantastical world- a world we know nothing about, she says.
While it was easy to pick out the hardcore fans with their robes and hats- many patrons, like Robert Cordle, had their own reasons for attending the premiere.
His girlfriend is a Harry Potter fanatic, he said.
Cordle was not exactly dragged.
He read the books and enjoyed them. Cordle assumes the movie will hold the same appeal.
After the movie, we caught up with patrons and asked if it was worth the hype.
Not quite, according to recent ASU grad Jessica McGloin.
She was upset so much had been cut out of the 900+ page book. McGloin said it was a good movie- just not accurate.
Boone’s Roman Presnell could not disagree more.
He said cuts had to be made somewhere- and the visual effects were fantastic. It was "awesome," he said.
It looks like you’ll just have to see for yourself. Check your local theatres for listings.
