Linville fires contained- but fight isn’t over PDF Print
Written by Lauren Ohnesorge

While incident information officer Dennis Whalers says the fires in the Linville Gorge Area are 100 percent contained, 130 personnel are currently on scene.

The fight isn’t over, he says.

The fire itself is still burning and needs heavy rain to completely extinguish.

The fires, which began from lightning strikes on June 8, have attracted firefighters from around the country to Burke County to battle the blazes.

While many areas remain closed- the U.S. Forest Service has reopened the Table Rock picnic area to the public.
