Boone Police want everyone to have a safe and happy Independence Day. To make that happen, Boone Police will be performing routine patrols during the holiday.

In the meantime, Boone Police Department’s Carl Underwood has a few tips on how to celebrate- and stay safe.

If you throw a party with alcohol, make sure you know who is coming, he said.

Make sure that everyone’s over 21- and do not let anyone drive while intoxicated, he said.

Fireworks provide a new set of dangers, he said. Only use legal fireworks, he says. Never let children use them- and always follow package directions.

Underwood recommends keeping water around- just in case things go awry. Never attempt to relight non-functioning fireworks. Soak fireworks before disposing of them.

If something does go wrong- don’t hesitate to give local rescue agencies a call, he says.
