A blood drive hosted by the American Red Cross of Watauga County at the Agricultural Conference Center produced 64 pints of blood according to a statement released yesterday.

6 first-time donors contributed to the ongoing pursuit to save lives. To meet the needs of patients, including those with blood disorders, accident victims and cancer patients, the American Red Cross must collect 1,600 blood donations each day. The American Red Cross would like to extend its sincere thanks to all the participants, supporters and volunteers at this recent drive.

Didn’t have a chance to give? There are plenty of opportunities. Friday, for example, Earth Fare in Boone is sponsoring a Blood Drive from noon until 4:30 p.m. All blood donors will be entered in a drawing gas gift cards.

Just a reminder- to donate blood, you must be 17 years-old, weigh minimum of 110 lbs, and be in general good health. For more information about donating blood, call 1-800-GIVE LIFE.
