Alleged coin thief strikes in Wilkes PDF Print

Deputies were called to a Wilkes home over the weekend after $4,350 worth of coins were allegedly stolen.

Roy Nichols’ home on Pods Road was the scene of the crime. Upon arriving home Saturday afternoon, he found his safe, which he had left unlocked, open and $4,000 worth of silver coins, $350 worth of gold coins, a nickel-plated 38-caliber handgun and a couple of knives were stolen. Including the damage to the front door, the loss was nearly $5,200. Because of diligent deputies, two suspects from North Wilkesboro were found and charged with breaking and entering and theft. Brothers Donald and Larry Brown admitted to having some of the stolen money, but by the time law enforcement got to the cash, which was at a flea market in Yadkin county, some of it had already changed hands.
